Death and Dying

When a character's body is reduced to zero or lower they begin to bleed out.  Each character has two stages of death, each stage being three minutes long, with second stage being more difficult to be healed from than the first.  If the character is not seen to or healed before these six minutes pass, the character is dead.  Dead characters must wait one hour to be discovered.  Dead characters will be taken to the nearest Tree of the Damned.  Once at the Tree of the Damned, the deceased will have their opportunity to plead their case with Fate, at which point they will be judged by Fate.  If deemed worthy their life will be restored to them, and they will be given another chance.  A character’s chance of returning diminishes with the height of their accomplishments, for they will then have less to achieve in this world.  Each character’s chance is also diminished by the number of times that they have visited Fate at the Tree of the Damned.  If an hour passes and their body has not been brought to the Tree of the Damned, then player should don an OOG head band and report to logistics.  If the body is completely destroyed (i.e.  burned, eaten, etc…) the character should immediately don an OOG head band and report to logistics.
When characters die they draw from a bag.  There are three types of beads in the bag: white, red, and black.  Each bag contains 25 beads. Each bag starts with twenty-four white beads, one red bead, and zero black beads.  If a white bead is drawn, then the character is brought back to the world of the living.  If a red bead is drawn, the character is brought back to the world of the living for the last time.  Characters who draw a red bead are given one last chance and may never again choose from the bag.  If they die again they are brought to the underworld, for their time on earth is done.  Red beads are awarded for every level a character attains (10 build is equivalent to 1 level).  If a player draws a black bead, the character is taken to the underworld and will never again return to the land of the living: they have resigned themselves to Fate’s care.  Black beads are awarded for each previous death the character has received.  Each red and black bead awarded removes one white bead from the character's bag. A character does not need to draw a bead on their first death unless Fate deems otherwise.

A player who chooses to retire a character is awarded 20% of their earned build to roll over to a new PC. A character who dies on their second death will be given 40% of their earned build, on their third death they will be given 30% of their earned build, and from their fourth death and beyond are given 20% of their earned build.
